A shared creative workspace in Ultimo, Sydney.

People working together

The Workbench is a workspace where you can get work done and be surrounded by the best kind of coworkers: people creating interesting things.

We’re not about sharing desks or hiring an office, we care about bringing together Sydney’s creative community and getting things done.

We’re for designers, writers, artists and business-people.

Although some great startups work with us, we’re not an incubator. Instead, we’ve created a unique, casual space to get work done alongside like-minded people, collaborating on projects and sharing ideas.

What we’re missing is you.

We hold weekly tours and Q&A sessions at 11am on Tuesday. Get in touch if you’d like to join our next tour.

The Space

The Workbench is in the creative hub of Ultimo, alongside UTS, TAFE’s fashion and photography campus, the ABC and the Powerhouse Museum. Our space is in a light-filled heritage warehouse and is fitted out with two large communal desks and a long, red workbench which runs the length of the room and super-fast wifi.

If you’d like to try a standing desk there’s another bench that’s the perfect height for that too. And there’s beanbags and sofas by the window for when you need a break from the desk.

Next door we share a large kitchen space, and when the sun’s shining you can sit in the park behind the building.

There are separate mens and womens bathrooms which we share with other offices on our floor, and there’s room to park your bike next to your desk.

Ultimo, Sydney is our ‘hood

We’re excited to be a part of the community in Ultimo, just outside the Sydney CBD.

The area has plenty of cafes (Mio Mia downstairs, Le Depot just up the road, and a coffee-nerd haven Mecca Espresso) and plenty of options for lunch (we’re often at Kopitiam for Malaysian or Quarry St Cafe for their amazing salad bowls). Haymarket’s a few minutes walk if you’d like Sydney’s best noodles, ramen and laksa.

Child care is available within the TAFE campus across the road, or at other centres close by.

There’s a park right behind our block that’s perfect for soaking up sunshine, and the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre is five minutes away if swimming laps or hitting the gym is more your style.

Our favourites, mapped.
